About Us

Having worked previously in a couple of recruitment agencies for little over a year, Lester Bird saw that that traditional agency methods of recruiting through advertisements rarely attracted the top talent for prospective clients and often resulted in failed assignments. At this time Lester was introduced to an American based head-hunter Steve Finkel who offered a professional structured methodology in locating, approaching and recruiting high caliber individuals who were not actively looking for a career change. Potentially, this meant that anyone in the market place could be recruited as opposed to relying on maybe 10% of the market place that were answering adverts or registering with agencies.

With this in mind Lester Bird set up Bird Executive Search in early 1995 which rejected advertising as a method of recruiting. Shortly afterwards he went into partnership with a previous business colleague - Darren Ellis. A University friend, John Heffernan, also joined them working exclusively for the Partnership as an associate.

The early business focused heavily on the Betting Industry by chance rather than design successfully attracting and recruiting many middle management professionals from outside the Betting Market Place. It was soon realized that the then land based Betting Industry was a niche sector that recruitment agencies and especially head-hunters had hitherto ignored due to its unglamorous image. Bird Ellis Partnership then actively sold their services to the Betting & Gaming Industry.

By early 2001 Darren Ellis and John Heffernan cashed in their share of the business to pursue alternative business avenues outside of the recruitment business. As Bird Ellis was established, the business name remained.

Lester Bird decided to stop actively selling recruitment services and instead pursued networking full time. By adopting this practice he is able to meet with almost anyone at any level. Busy people do not want to meet a salesman but will gladly meet with someone who could offer them an exclusive and un-advertised career enhancing opportunity. Birdellis’ network is now more extensive and far reaching than would have been possible with actively selling recruitment services. A very fortunate by product of professional networking is new business by referral and repeat business from existing clients.
